ENERGY STAR Multifamily New Construction Certification
The well known EPA's ENERGY STAR certification program has been updated for multifamily buildings to include almost all residential projects with more than 2 units (some exception applies). Projects with permit application date from July 1st 2021 to use the latest scheme discussed in this page MFNC.
There is 3 paths from which Builders/developers may choose:
|
The most flexible approach is the second one ASHRAE Path which based on whole-building energy model results comparison between the ASHRAE 90.1 baseline and the proposed design. This path permits accurate estimation of energy consumption which empowers the design team to make decisions that balance initial and operation cost. As well, whole-building energy model will consider all potential energy efficiency measures and for medium/large projects would take less time.
Finally, in most situations the energy models could be re-used to comply with other projects requirements such as:

DESIGN PHASEAll members of the certification team have to meet the requirements of ENERGY STAR, they are Builders, Developers, Raters, ASHRAE Path Modelers, and Functional Testing Agents. Our recognized ASHRAE Modelers will ensure a transparent process and flawless documentations.
On top of providing the minimum submittal documentations(the ASHRAE Path Calculator and Model Input/Output Reports), we will provide various alternative to improve the performance and/or reduce investment cost. This analysis of materials, operational behaviour, receptacles loads, lighting density, HVAC types and performance.
POST CONSTRUCTIONAfter the building construction and inspection, included in our services will be updated the energy model based on As-Built conditions. In order, to reduce the delays it is crucial that our team participate in any design changes decision to inform the building owner of performance changes by generating intermediate simulation results.
